What are bare root transplants?
Wikipedia’s excruciatingly detailed info for Evergreens >>
Wikipedia’s excruciatingly detailed info for Conifers >>
“Bare root” transplants are grown in the ground from a 1-2 year old bare root seedling or plug seedling for an additional 1 to 2 years, and are therefore 3-4 years old. This traditional method has been used for generations. These huskier trees are ideal for field transplanting because they are larger and stronger in every way than our cheaper evergreen seedlings or evergreen plug seedlings. Transplants have longer and more developed root systems which can reach deeper for water.
Whats the difference between a seedling and a transplant? >>
We pack the roots of bare root transplants in damp sphagnum moss, and then wrap them in plastic to retain moisture during shipping. Sizes range anywhere from 10 to 24 inches [not including roots] depending on the species, but most of our bare root transplants average 12 to 18 inches. Please refer to the exact sizing info of each transplant species on each specific page.
