Fraser Fir Seedlings

(Abies fraseri)

The Fraser Fir has classic looks, featuring short, soft, dark-green needles with silver undersides revealed by upturning branches. It is a beautiful ornamental, and is widely considered the finest Christmas tree in North America. (and most commonly misspelled: Frazer Fir, Frasier Fir, Fraser Fur, etc.)

The Fraser grows to a maximum height of 80 feet, and will flourish in fertile, rocky & sandy soils which are slightly acidic. In any case, they must have good drainage. They are somewhat tolerant of shade, but prefer full sun. A good rule of thumb is to plant them from Tennessee north, but you can also plant them farther south in areas of higher elevation.

The Fraser Fir is so similar to the Balsam Fir that scientists believe that not too long ago they were one and the same.

These and most other "bare root" evergreen trees are now available for pre-order, and will begin shipping on March 26, 2012 [shipping info]. To guarantee availability [i.e. to reserve trees in your name], we suggest that you order soon. If you'd like to have shipped at a later date, please specify that date in a follow up email after placing your order. However, shipping season for these specific bare root trees ends after the week of May 21, 2011. If you need trees shipped earlier or later than that, we suggest you look at our various sizes and species of plug seedlings and plug transplants, which can be shipped at nearly any time of year.
