It’s short bright bluish green needles and conical shape makes this conifer species a landscaper’s friend, one which can be planted and trimmed almost like a hedge. Once established, this species is a very tough tree, virtually immune to the most common spruce pests and very tolerant of drying winter winds.

Although named after the South Dakota region in which it is naturally found, Black Hills Spruce actually thrive in a much wider range of cooler, moist regions. This includes states as far south as Georgia if planted at a high enough elevation.
