[a.k.a. American Arborvitae, Eastern Arborvitae]
White Cedar is a great species for windbreaks, privacy screens and hedges, and can reach heights of 40 feet and live as long as 800 years. Both the needles and the wood of White Cedar feature a pleasant fragrance.
Although White Cedar does well in upland areas, it also does well in wetter lowland areas such as slightly swampy areas, stream banks and lake shores, where the soil is dark and rich. White Cedar is also quite shade tolerant (especially when young), but does well in full sun. It is relatively resistant to insect pests, and its timber is used for poles, shakes and shingles due to it’s natural resistance to rot.
White Cedar often turn a leathery brown, reddish or even purple color due to winter exposure, and to the untrained eye one might conclude that they are damaged or dying. However, this color change is quite normal, and the trees will green up quickly in the warmer weather of Spring.
PLANT IN RECORD TIME:
Watch how to plant these evergreen seedling plugs faster and with less effort than any other type of “bare root” evergreen seedling. With just a garden cart or wheelbarrow, a jug or three of water, a cordless drill, any old/dull/rusty 1 inch drill bit you have lying around [your own drill bit, we do not provide a free auger with plug seedlings], you can realistically plant at least one plug seedling per minute. Your back will thank us later 🙂
SHIPPING NOW THROUGH DEC 18, 2017
Order the above plug seedlings by 9am EST and we try hard to ship same day, unless [a] your trees won’t get to you by Friday or [b] our shipping schedule is already full. If you’d like to order now to guarantee availability but postpone your shipment to a later date, please specify that date in a follow up email after placing your order.
