What is an evergreen seedling?

Germinated from seed and grown for two or three years, seedlings are often transplanted by wholesalers in a somewhat controlled environment, but require significant care [especially during extreme weather]. Our evergreen seedling sizes range from 5 to 20 inches [not including roots] depending on the species, but most of our seedlings average 8 to 14 inches.

What is an evergreen transplant?

Grown from 2 to 3 year old seedlings for an additional 1 to 2 years, transplants are ideal for yard or field planting because they are thicker and stronger, and have longer and more developed root systems. Sizes range anywhere from 8 to 20 inches [not including roots] depending on the species, but most of our transplants average 12 to 18 inches.

What is a "plug" seedling?

Seedling plugs are shipped with a small, cohesive, bullet shaped "plug" of dirt into which the roots have grown, meaning they are not "bareroot" as with our traditional evergreen seedlings. The roots are therefore already established in that plug of dirt, and can begin putting out new root growth and new top growth fairly quickly. Bareroot seedlings, on the other hand, are shipped with no dirt, so they must get their roots reestablished in the new soil before they can begin putting on any significant new growth. Note: our plug seedlings are shipped in packs of 5, wrapped in plastic. They are not shipped in tubes or foam containers.
